Observing each time the photos of Lefkada visitors, we notice the love of photos that let the eye travel.
For the landscapes that show the beauty of the island from above, harmoniously blending color green with blue,
sharing the glory of their imprint between Lefkada land and the Ionian Sea.
So, we suggest some locations from where one can admire the immense beauty of this unique island:
The view from the monastery of Faneromeni
The monastery of Faneromeni, dedicated to the patron saint of the island,
is an important religious pilgrimage anyway, but it is also visited by the majority of the island’s visitors for its amazing view.
It is located on a hill, southwest of the city of Lefkada on the way to the western beaches that absorb a large portion of people.
The view from the point where it is located is amazing, as it opens in front of your eyes,
the whole city of Lefkada with the “Holy”* Venetian olive grove, the lagoons,
the entrance of the island with its imposing castle and the impressive Gyra with its endless sandy beach,
from the Castle to the southern edge of Ai Giannis, but also a large part of Epirus,
Aitoloakarnania with its towering majestic mountains and the Ionian sea that cools all of this protectively.
It is taken for granted that along with the visit to the monastery and its relics,
he will photograph it and be photographed against the background of the amazing panorama that he will see in front of him!
The sunset from Exanthia and Drymonas
Everyone has in mind the sunsets of Santorini and Milos.
Maybe because they haven’t been to Exanthia and Drymonas.
Two wonderful traditional villages of western Lefkada perched on the slopes of the mountain mass that seem to hang almost over the Ionian Sea.
There the visitor will photograph one of the most beautiful sunsets in Greece.
You will feel your breath taken away by the beauty, as the crimson sun sinks into the pure blue of the Ionian and paints the horizon in its warm colors.
No matter what season you visit the island, you will photograph a different wonderful sunset over and over again every time.
The view from the church of Agios Ilias above Egluvi
Many know about it, few visit it. You don’t easily leave the lure of the sea to visit a small white church
on the top of the homonymous mountain (Agios Ilias) near the most mountainous village of Lefkada, the beautiful Egluvi.
But if you do it, you only come out victorious.
From here the visitor’s gaze wanders north to the snow-capped, even in summer,
mountains of Epirus and westward to the depths of the Ionian Sea that can be seen behind the peaks that enclose the plateau in the center of the island.
But what steals the impressions is the east. At your feet, below, the Prigiponisia islands of Lefkada,
the poetic Madouri, the famous Skorpios, the not so well known Sparta, the mansion Meganisi,
Kalamos and Kastos and everything that makes up the famous Televoides Islands.
The hills gently descend to cosmopolitan Nydri dressed in all shades of green.
And the green floating islands, you think they are also in the blue waters.
The bay of Vlycho
To the east, again a closed bay, a natura area that hosts many species of birdlife in winter and summer
and is also an attraction for many sailing boats since it provides safety and tranquility.
The bay of Vlycho is surrounded by green shores and two settlements, the homonymous Vlycho and Geni.
As the visitor comes from the south after turning the big bend after the village of Katochori,
he can only park his car on the side of the road since he cannot take his eyes off the beauty that is in front of him.
It is a sunset-photographed spot on the island.
The view from Sivros, Vournika and Agios Ilias
These villages, bathed in greenery and waters, are built on the southern slopes of Elati, an imposing mountain range.
Walking along their wonderful paths, your gaze will surely embrace the south, with the Vasiliki plain,
the Nira peninsula, ending with the Lefkata lighthouse and across the distance, the mountains of Kefalonia and Ithaca sailing calmly in the endless blue of the Ionian Sea.
This text could never end. Every point of the island hides a unique view.
We only give a few suggestions here.
